Wortley Village in London

Wortley is a unique neighbourhood that offers a small town “main street” feel just minutes southwest of downtown London. Wortley village has been picked as Canada's best place to live in the past, and it truly lives up to it’s reputation.

The homes in this area are diverse in both style and pricing but generally expect pricing to start in the mid 200’s and go up from there depending on size, lot, renovations, and school district.

Some of the larger homes in the area have undergone extensive renovations or additions, there are truly some magnificent homes available in Wortley Village. Because it is one of the most desired areas in London, it offers good opportunity for homeowners to add value to their homes by renovating.

For those seeking a more modern home, there are some condo and infill developments in Wortley, but these opportunities are quite limited since it is such an established area.

Century homes can be a lot of work to maintain. If you are looking for a home in Wortley Village you COULD come across things like Oil fuel for heating, lead in pipes, knob and tube wiring and varying types of insulation/building materials that would not meet today’s standards and could present an issue for getting insurance. Another quirk with older neighbourhoods is you may come across many houses that have shared/mutual drives and garages are somewhat of a luxury particularly in the lower price points. A home inspection is ALWAYS a good idea, particularly with older homes.

Wortley/Old South also has a number of wonderful parks and green spaces, including Thames park which has a recently renovated outdoor pool and lots of room for sports and activities.

Old South also boasts an active community association and you will find many events happening in the community, during the warmer months some events take place on “The Green” the large grassy area adjacent to the Normal School, which was recently bought and renovated by the YMCA adding 104 child care spaces for this community.
